News - Rays
Review
Hello everyone and thank you
very much for your patience, enthusiasm and support in our
1st month of the 2008 season.
My name is Elizabeth (Liz)
Geddes, and you may or may not know that I am the President of the
Club. In the past month our main priority was to get the club going
for the year and transition the executive from the old board to the
new. This has not been an easy task; with the age of
technology some things can become quite complicated. Thankfully we
have managed with the help of a dedicated parent to transfer all of
the financial data for the club into a new updated accounting
system. This will enable us to insure everyone receives a receipt
at the end of the year for the new 2007 BC fitness credit for
kids.
In order to create a history
log for the club a review of all the old records is taking place
and will take longer to complete than expected.
One item missing from the club has been a log of the past executive
decisions for the club. We are in the process of reviewing 6 boxes
of history for the club so we hope you will understand if the new
executive makes a few mistakes along the way. We are all working
hard to get up to speed quickly and any assistance, questions or
concerns you have are greatly appreciated. As volunteers we have
roles outside of the ones for the club but will do the best we can
to review your suggestions on a timely manner with a reply on any
decisions or progress report that we have made.
Other Events this
month:
Timber West – with the
gracious support of Scott Reid another firewood fund raiser came
through again for the club. Big thanks go out to Scott and Dina for
getting this organized on such short notice with both advertising
and volunteers to make it another successful fundraiser.
NAIG 2008 - the past executive
was approached by Garrett Elliott of Cowichan 2008 for the Duncan
Swim team to act as the hosting Local Sport Organization (LSO) for
the swimming events for the games. The new executive reviewed
the offer and with the support of Steve Ridenour,
our Meet Manger, and the past executive we voted
to accept the offer. This will add to the responsibilities of the
board but offer great opportunity for our swimmers and Membership
to participate in an event of this scale. The club will also be in
a position for some great PR with regards to the partnership that
will be established and we may come into some legacy funded items
for the club. The membership should be aware that none of the
expense of the 3 day event will come from the club. We are
providing operational expertise and volunteers to host the event.
Those who are interested should send an email confirmation to me or
Steve directly for future reference.
Team
Manager Role - Heather
Hayward has graciously offered to take on the role of Team Manager.
She will be working very closely with Leanne in organizing meet
entries and travel options for our competitive swimmers. Say hi to
her on deck and if you have any questions about her role and how
she can help you with completing meet forms or travel arrangements
she‘s there to assist. Her role really helps to insure, you
the membership, have a person to go to while Leanne is coaching and
focusing her energy on our 70+ fabulous swimmers.
Members of the Executive also
had a meeting with Don Stewart of North Cowichan on the time frame
and support we need from him and the new pool. Don will be the
manager of thenewpool and is looking forward to working with us for
next year. Don has a very positive outlook
and wants to see the pool and the other clubs (ie syncro, masters,
summer and winter) work well as partners to increase the sport of
swimming in the valley.
In closing we have a member
considering volunteering to provide a news letter for the club so
hopefully this will be the 1st and last boring letter
you receive from me.
Thank you very much for your
support of the new executive and Happy Swimming.
